Jeep Car Manuals PDF & Wiring Diagrams above the page. His appearance was due to the requirements of the Second World War, at a time when the US Army has contracted with three car manufacturers in order to create a durable and reliable militaryvehicle. Among automakers had one small company in Pennsylvania by the name American Bantam, who came up with a surprisingly simple and reliable design. The car, calledBantam BRC, was surprisingly well-built, except for a small 'glitch' that the army was perceived by officials as a major drawback: Bantam engine did not meetArmy requirements. The car was rejected, although it was made better than competitors' models.
It was believed that -Overland (Manuals PDFpage), a company comparable in size to by Bantam, which entered the race for the contract, the US Army had access to drawings and technical data of the last. After the victory inthe race for the contract, Wyllis went on to design the plant in Toledo (Ohio) that later became the Jeep.Although the company has already been appointed as the winner, the US Army is concerned for the Willys because of their inability to move the production to another plant, ifrequired, and because of the relatively small size of the company, which made it vulnerable to espionage and sabotage actions. Thus, the Army requested the Ford Motor Company toproduce for them Jeeps. That the term 'jeep' came at that moment.
(PDF Manuals page) gave his initials vehicles GPW, whichare still considered to be cars 'general purpose'. However, Jeeps have been built for a specific purpose, and the name of this theory has been replaced in favor of another, according to which G is a government vehicle, P was an indicator of the wheelbase, while W is the design Wyllis.Bartam was forgotten, and Ford-Wyllis partnership has been the most productive - together they have produced more than 600,000 units during the war, the averagevalue was slightly above $ 300 per unit. Jeep name has caused the origin of the brand, which is constantly changed owners. The first civilian Jeep CJ or was produced in 1941 by Wyllis, then the owners began to change.
Wyllis was transferred to (Manuals page) in 1953, becoming in the process of Kaiser-Jeep. By 1970, the company was losing money, and she had no choice but to sell its activities (Pdf Manuals) in 1973.Development of Jeep vehicles has been renewed with the financial support of (Manuals page), whowere also interested in Jeep performance.
In 1987, in New York AMC replaced the CJ insanely popular model Wrangler, which had a new design. After Renault withdrew because of changes in the car market, American Motors was bought by (Manuals PDF page), which later merged with (Manuals PDF page) tocreate Diamler Chrysler group, which is now responsible for the production and marketing of Jeep vehicles.Jeeps are widely known for their durability and reliability in the most rugged terrain and are renowned for their suspension, which provides increased ground clearance for thewheels larger. Older cars Jeep commonly served in Vietnam, where their name has been translated as 'quite necessary parts.' Off-road ability of the vehicle continues to be amajor advantage in the sale, and the brand gathered an army of loyal fans.
Failure Date: The break tail lamp shots out and had to replace the unit twice this year and the was wiring shots to the break light and it cost me $1500 for the break light wiring shot and the tail light assemble. I have had this problem for 3 yrs consecutive and I think it is a safety issue since it is the breaks lighting and their has been multiple complaints about the same issue for this vehicle on line. I think that Chrysler should recall all this vehicles and rewire them for free since it is a safety fitcher.
The whole break wiring had melted because it had a shot and burnt the bulb sockets and assemble unit. Failure Date: Without warning my Jeeps engine will shut off. It doesnt matter if it is while stopped or driving it will shut off and not turn back on until about 10 minutes later.
When it has shut off it will still turn over and I have power to everything I need but it will not fire up. This happened first on a sunny morning driving in town. I towed it back to my house and could not get any codes.
It fired up and I thought it was fine so I kept driving it. At this point about ten minutes down the road in the middle of traffic and while cruising along a busy road it shut off, I had power and the ability to steer but no power steering. Luckily I had a driveway to pull into and I coasted into it. This happens without warning. At this point I have my Jeep at the dealer in modesto CA for a diagnostic and they have told me that I need to replace the computer and the wiring harness for 1400 dollars and then they will see if that fixes the problem. Not a guarantee it will fix the problem. This is unacceptable to me as I cannot spend this type of money with the hope that whatever other problem there might be will be more affordable or easier to diagnose.
This has to be a problem that is inherent with the Jeep itself and a manufacture defect. Not only do I not believe this is my fault as a user of the vehicle but I believe that this has caused an unsafe operating condition and I could have been seriously injured if this had happened on another road such as, a dirt road, mountain road, winding road, in icy or rainy conditions, or on the highway.
This has also caused me to not be able to sell this car for any reasonable price, and the price for repair is over a quarter of the blue book of the car. Overall I do not feel safe with this vehicle for the intended purpose it was made for and this needs to be investigated before someone gets killed.

Failure Date: Front passenger side door wiring harness broke at 165,150 miles. (this has happened on the driver side of my 1999 Jeep also). Many complaints on the internet of this very problem!!! Happens to almost all Jeeps at some point. Too short of wiring harness and/or brittle of wires.
This repeating problem needs to be a recall for all of the door wiring harnesses. When this happens, doors do not lock, windows can not be raised or lowered, back hatch or window cannot be opened. If there is a pet in the far back and a pet fence is in place up front, you cannot get to the pet!!!
Please make this a recall to fix. Jeep/Chrysler needs to be held accountable. Failure Date: My 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo was acting like the door was open (overhead computer warning driver door open and interior lights would not go out), but was visibly/physically closed. The windows, door locks and mirror controls were not working. Upon further investigation of the main wires coming in from the body of the Jeep into the door, (door jam/black boot) it was clear what the problem was.
There was a black severed wire and a partial severed orange/white wire. There was no clear solution why this has happened. There has been multiple reports of this being a common problem with the wiring harness. This should be recalled as it is obviously a manufacturers defect and is costing people a lot of money to fix. Failure Date: Tl- takata air bags. The contact owns a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph in the rain, the vehicle stalled and lost power, including break and window powers, without any warning indicator.

The contact pulled to the side, waited and restarted the vehicle. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken to a local dealer who diagnosed that the wiring harness under the hood needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000. In addition, the contact received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 15v673000 (air bags).
VIN tool confirms parts not available. Failure Date: Defect in electrical wiring in driver-side door prevents windows from rolling down (a safety hazard) and doors from locking/unlocking.
The back hatch will either remain in locked or unlocked mode depending on when the wiring fails (this model Jeep does not include a manual way to use a key to unlock/lock the back hatch). If a pet was in the back of the SUV that had a 'pet fence', there would be no way to get the pet out of the vehicle (or luggage/cargo). This is especially concerning in the event of a rear end collision where the gas tank may catch on fire (current recall). The interior lights also stay on as if a door was open.
Turning off the interior lights prevents the speedometer/odometer/gauges/etc from illuminating at night. If the lights are not turned off, then all interior lights remain on causing a hazard at night as well. Driver-side wiring was fixed in October of 2012. In September of 2013, the passenger-side wiring is causing the same problem - windows/door locks don't work and the interior lights stay on.
This problem is not an anomaly. It is very concerning that the wiring can fail in both front doors within a one year period - creating safety issues. Failure Date: 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee ran the day before, after it rained that night the next morning the car will not start, remote started to work no sound, lights would go off & on, after locating the harness boot between the drivers door negative wiring fatigues and breaks, heard clicking sounds when boot was touched. Now nothing works. Car has been repaired for other major issues, pcm, tps, senoids, barrons etc. This is a defect & Chrysler needs to face up to correcting their faulty wiring, and not leave it up to the consumer to fix on there own, were are not mechanics, from reading all the complaints on the web, it makes me wonder why Jeep is still in business, great bodies but no peep inside, all the wiring in the drivers side door harness is ridiculous & is an accident waiting to happen for the consumer. These wires should never been bunched together which is allowing friction when opening & closing the door causing burn outs & shorts with the wiring 'shame on you Chrysler.
Failure Date: 2004 Jeep cherokee, twice now the fuse to the fuel injector has blown within a month rendering the car undrivable. Going down the road the car cuts off, you cannot steer it, and the brakes seem not to work well at all, you practically have to stand on them. This nearly got me hit today going through a red light. The first time it happened, I was going down a hill and barely got the car stopped before hitting a tree. I had it towed to a mechanic, he changed the fuse and thought that it was ok, until today. Two years ago, the wiring to the windows and door locks quit working and had to pay to have that replaced, there is definitely something not right with these vehicles. Years ago, I had an acceleration problem, got stuck, finally got control of it, and the check engine light stayed on, took it to the dealership, they said they couldn't find anything wrong, never could tell me why the check engine light had come on after this occurring.
Failure Date: Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the driver side wiring harness broke causing all electric components in the vehicle to not work. The contact stated that the same exact failure has happened four times. The contact took the vehicle to dealer park Chrysler Jeep 1408 highway 13 west, burnsville, mn 55537 where they repaired the drivers side wiring harness, but the same failure happened several years later. The vehicle was also taken to independent mechanics.
The manufacturer was contacted and were unable to provide any further assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000. Failure Date: First started in Nov 2009 driver side door controls won't work, dome lights go on with headlights, repaired broken wire. June 2010, drivers door is inoperable window stuck down, cannot lock doors, repaired wiring harness in door. 2011 windows and door locks were inoperable.
made wiring repair., Jan 2013 door locks and windows inoperable, dome light stays on while driving or else you loose control panel lights.repaired door harness in rr and rf doors-was told this is last time they can repair harnesses and next time this happens it will cost $2,000 to replace all wiring. This seems ridiculous and the dealership mentioned they have had this problem before with Jeeps. I do not see how this should keep malfunctioning if no damage or abuse has happened to the vehicle. I believe Jeep should stand behind their vehicle and repair the wiring harness at no charge until they come up with a better system of wiring harnesses through the doors. Failure Date: The contact owns a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the wiring harness is located on the driver's side door, but the harness is too small to sustain all the wires.
When the door is opened, the wires come out of the harness and break, which causes the locks and interior lighting to fail. The interior lighting remains illuminated. If the contact turns off the interior lighting while driving at night, she is unable to see the instrumental panel. The repair would cost $400. A report was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that they will not charge her the total cost for the repair. The dealer will replace the wires and harness at the cost of $100. The failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 55,000.
Failure Date: I own a 2004 Jeep cherokee which has an electrical issue where the power windows, door locks and everything on the drivers side door control panel do not work as well as the interior lights do not turn off, all causing a safety issue. I found out this is a known issue with Jeep cherokees due to the wiring inside the front drivers side door. I had this issue in 2009 after at about 46,000 miles. When calling the dealership I was told that this is a known issue and the dealership give me an exact price over the phone as they knew of this issue.
Since the dealership was very rude and price was very high. I had the repairs done at a highly regarded repair shop which specializes in electrical work which cost $201 but now (at 80,000 miles) the exact same issue has happened again due to the opening and closing of the front drivers side door. The wiring harness is located on the driver's side door, but the harness is too small to sustain all of the wires. When the door is opened, the wires come out of the harness and break, which causes everything on the drivers side door panel not to work.
This includes the power windows, door locks, interior lights and power mirrors all of which cause a safety hazard. I believe that this should be a recall for Jeep that they should fix free of charge especially since this is a known issue. I feel that it's very reckless of Jeep to not recall this known safety issue and allow their customers to drive with windows and door locks that to not work or interior lights that do not turn off.
In order to turn off the interior lights I had to remove the fuse which can be very dangerous at night and makes it very difficult see any of the instruments. This car is used by my handicapped wife and due to this issue I will not let her drive at night as I feel this car is very unsafe in it's current state.
Failure Date: The contact owns a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the front and rear driver and passenger side windows would not open and the dome light was constantly illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician replaced the wiring within the driver's side door wiring harness.
After the repair the failure recurred six times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not further repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000. Failure Date: 2004 Grand Cherokee electrical units stopped working. While driving on a hot day the vehicle electrical system shut down. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who determined that he problem was with the bcm.
The bcm was replaced. A week later, on another hot day, the electrical system shut down again but the engine continued to run. As a result the a/c did not work and the power windows could not be rolled down. The vehicle accelerated suddenly while pulling into a garage striking another vehicle. After repeated attempts to ge the vehicle fixed the dealer found a broken ground wire in the engine wiring harness. After nine months the problems have not recurred.
The consumer believes the broken ground wire was the cause of the electrical shut down and sudden acceleration. Failure Date: I lease a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with heated leather seats. Earlier this year the driver side heater went out then I noticed that just the lower back heater came on. One day in February after driving for about an hour and 1/2 I got home and tried to take off my sweatshirt but could not as it was melted to my cell phone case. At first I did not know what had happened then upon later investigation I noticed a burn whole in my car seat that ran up what was apparently the heater wire. I am a paraplegic and if it was not for the cell phone case I could have been burned.
My concern is for others like me and due to the severity of the heat which could melt a sweat shirt and a phone case that it potentially could ignite clothing. Failure Date: 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee lost all electrical power inside vehicle on multiple occasions. The consumer was told the problem was a faulty bcm. However, the same problem recurred one month later. In oct 2005, the consumer experienced unwanted acceleration while he was pulling into the garage and hit another vehicle. The consumer stated the check engine light would occasionally come on and then go of.
Then the rear hatch light would come on, the tire pressure light and the security system stopped working. The dealer then found a broken ground wire in the engine harness. The windows were inoperative. Failure Date: We purchased a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee the end of June 2004. The car had approximately 30-40 miles at purchase. Three days after purchase the car cut off on my husband and was difficult to start. The dealership told us they could not look at the car because the check engine light did not come on.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Door Wiring Harness Repair
While on vacation 1 1/2 weeks after purchase our car shut off while traveling 60 mph on a highway. The car would not start and was towed to a Jeep dealership in maryland. That dealership replaced the computer in the car.
No incidents occurred for 1 1/2 weeks. Then upon our return to south carolina the rpm of our car would suddenly drop to 500 while idling at traffic lights or at a stop.
The rpm's would also suddenly drop to 0 and the car would cut off while idling. From the middle of July until the end of August the car was looked at approximately 6 times. The skim module and wiring harness were both replaced in the car.
After the wiring harness was replaced the car ceased to have problems for 3000 miles. Then on December 4th the car cut off while waiting at a traffic light. The rpm's have now started to once again drop down to below 500 and occasionally they go up and down when the car is not even moving. A CO-pilot system was installed to record any errors in the car and no codes or misfires were captured from the car. The dealership has been unable to fix the car and Chrysler informed us that they were not willing to replace our car even though they are unable to fix the problem. Failure Date: My 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a couple power outlets; they look almost like cigarette lighter receptacles.
The outlets are marked '20a' indicating a 20 amp current capability. The Jeep book also indicates these power outlets are able to carry 20 amps, and the Jeep shop manual calls these 20 amp circuits. When I disassembled some trim to install a 2-meter ham radio, I saw 2 very small wires connected to the rear power outlet. The Jeep shop manual says these are 16 gauge wires. Here is the problem: 16 gauge wires will not come near the ability to handle 20 amps of current.
In fact, 16 gauge wire current capacity in a cable bundle is around the 5 or 6 amp area. My ham radio draws 8 amps when transmitting, and when plugged in the Jeep power outlet, the voltage drop was three volts. What this means is that the wires can severely overheat and become a fire hazard if the consumer believes the advertised 20 amp capability. I have no idea how Chrysler/Jeep gets away with this. There is a 20 amp fuse in this circuit, so anyone using an inverter or other accessory that actually draws 20 amps is going to seriously overheat or melt the wiring before the fuse blows.
